ART & SAND

CALIFORNIA BEAUTIFUL

NATURAL BEAUTY

Monday, February 9, 2015

I thought the rains were over and went out to shoot the water.  I had everything set up for a slow shutter photograph.  I had just begun the shot when all of the sudden, I felt something - it was a sprinkle.  I looked up and just like that, the heavens opened up and it was like a bucket of water splashing down on me.

I had to protect the camera and the lens from getting wet so I snatched everything up in a hurry and started down the hill.  In seconds, the hill was already muddy and I found myself slipping.  I held the equipment tight while gliding down the slope; mud oozing everywhere.  (Luckily, I have great balance... but I still looked like a wet cat....)

Water Flow after Today's Rain

Water at the Creek

I did it!  I taught myself how to work with ND filters!  Here's what I did:

I did not have an extra pair of socks with me so I decided to stay on top of the hill where it was nice and dry.

The clouds were perfect. The wind was really blowing hard and I was clicking away while walking along the side of the road, gazing at the Pacific Ocean - the colors were fantastic...
PACIFIC OCEAN
Before I knew it, it was dark and I was alone.

In a split second, a stranger was standing behind me.  He said, "That's an expensive camera you have there... And you're alone."  "Oh, no," I said, "My husband is around the corner with the other camera."  And just like that, the stranger was gone.  I hurried back to my car and drove off.
ROCKING

The waves were splashing around me so much that they got my rubber boots full of water so I had to go back to the car to change to my shoes.

Here are some pictures from my latest adventure...

I looked for a great place to photograph and found it but the wind was really bad and the waves were naughty...
